OPM release 2016.04

We are pleased to announce the availability of OPM release 2016.04. This is the first release this year, the previous release was 2015.10. The next release is expected to be 2016.10. Some features of the release include:

  • Further improved general performance for Flow, the fully implicit black-oil reservoir simulator.
  • Improvements to the extended versions of Flow: Flow-solvent handles more solvent effects and Flow-polymer has better performance.
  • Many of the upscaling programs have been cleaned up, and a few bugs have been fixed related to unit handling. Gravity is better handled in the relative permeability upscaling.
  • Major reorganization of modules, for more information see the updated modules page.

We’d like to thank all who played a part in the release, for finding bugs, posting issues, writing code, reviewing, testing and packaging.

Instructions for installation are found on our download page. Binary packages are available for Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, instructions are available for building from source for any Linux variant or Mac OS X.

OPM meeting in Oslo June 1-2

Dear OPM community,

We would like to invite you to participate in the 2016 OPM Meeting on June 1-2 in Oslo! We hope to welcome anybody who wants to come, please contact Atgeirr Flø Rasmussen or Tor Harald Sandve if you want to join. Please tell us as early as possible if you are planning to come to the OPM meeting so we get an overview.

We propose to make the Wednesday more user-centric and the Thursday more developer-centric, but anyone can participate on either or both days. The agenda is still open, so feel free to propose items for the agenda for either of the two days, either on the mailing list or directly to the organizers. We plan a conference dinner on Wednesday evening. The rest of the agenda will be posted as soon as we have one. Please indicate if you want to join the conference dinner.

Time: Wednesday 1st – Thursday 2nd of June 2016. We will start at 10:00 on Wednesday, and end at 15:00 on Thursday.

Location: SINTEF, Forskningsveien 1, Oslo, Norway.

Travel/Accommodation: Participants must make their own arrangements. Oslo hotels can fill up in the summer, so it is good to book early. There are no hotels in the immediate area of SINTEF, but it is easily accessible by tram (“trikk”), metro (“t-bane”) from downtown hotels (or taxi). Unfortunately, we have no funds to cover travel or accommodation. There is no fee for the meeting. Conference facilities and lunch will be provided by SINTEF.

Hope to see you in June!

Module reorganization, upcoming release

We have recently made some significant changes to the module/repository organization of the OPM software:

  • Remove the module opm-porsol, moving the content of opm-porsol into opm-upscaling.
  • Rename the module dune-cornerpoint to opm-grid. For now the contents are unchanged, but we intend to move all grid-related code into opm-grid.
  • Rename the module opm-autodiff to opm-simulators. Contents are also here unchanged for now.
  • Create a new module opm-output, containing some parts that used to be in opm-core. Ongoing work related to comprehensive and flexible output facilities will be hosted here.

The web site information about the modules may be inaccurate for a little while. We are aiming for a new OPM release at the end of April, at that time everything should be up-to-date.

OPM Release 2015.10

We are pleased to announce the availability of OPM release 2015.10. This is the second release this year, the previous release was 2015.04. The next release is expected to be 2016.04. Main highlights of the release include:

  • Significantly improved performance for Flow, the fully implicit black-oil reservoir simulator.
  • An experimental black-oil + solvent simulator (Flow-solvent).
  • Improvements to the experimental black-oil + polymer simulator (Flow-polymer).
  • General improvements (error handling, tests etc.) to many parts of OPM, including the upscaling codes.

We’d like to thank all who played a part in the release, for finding bugs, posting issues, writing code, reviewing, testing and packaging.
